Nice but one problem martie 13, 2010 James L. Stout (Keno, OR USA) Nice radio easy to set up radio stations but you cant dim the display when its playing. So if you like to listen to music or talk at night your room will have a bright blue glow to it, unless you cover the display. Talked to customer support and the said no planned firmware upgrade to allow one to dim it. I think this issue is not one on every wifi radio, just sanyo. Also you should get an account with recvia as some more popular stations do not show up in the radios list. Just add them to 'my stations' in recvia and you can access them on the unit. Nice sounding and attractive unit
It's Alive! martie 10, 2010 A. Kass (Staten Island, NY United States) The Sanyo R227 is powerful, versatile, and solid. What it could be is a lot better explained and a bit easier to set up. On setting up our wireless, with our access point's summary in hand, my wife gave up, and I, with 30 years of experience in IT, happened onto the solution on my third try after about a half-hour of reading and head-scratching (saying YES to configure network key as a subset of manual network setup, rather than just being presented the option to enter it the setup routine).
But once it is set up, what a beauty! The sound is awesome, the listing method is clear and easy to use, and you can pre-program up to 8 selections (back to the future! - like car radio controls back when you could use them and drive at the same time). The remote is clear and easy to use -- want to hear Wyoming Public Radio's "Ranch Breakfast" from your kitchen table in New York? - just click your pre-set and you're there. Very little re-sync on the wireless in our busy home network.
If Sanyo can just slightly improve the documentation or the setup routine, they'll win flawlessly. I didn't (quite) need support, so my support rating is based on the documentation, which is about adequate with some omissions.
OK but needs work! martie 9, 2010 Rockin' Oldey (Richmond, VA) Like everyone else, I'd been rummaging around the Internet listening to radio broadcasts from everywhere and liking the variety. What I didn't like was all the futzing around, going through multiple screens to set each station up for listening. When I saw this Sanyo and other products advertised in various places, I thought this was the answer.
Well, yes and no. One of the first things you read in the set-up instructions is "be patient. This is a developing technology" or something to that effect. Is it ever! Not only is it a lengthy process to get it set up, it doesn't always work once programmed.
I've experienced numerous episodes of screen messages that read "connection failure. cannot achieve IP addressing" which is to say, sometimes it works and other times it fails. If it fails in the alarm clock mode, at least it has a back-up that switches to a buzzer so you aren't late.
So I'd say that it's an interesting experiment but needs some work. It's not clear whether this is Sanyo's problem or a connection problem with broadband services. Also, the remote control is a piece of junk. It doesn't work; change the battery, still doesn't work. Put it in the drawer.
r-227 martie 3, 2010 Ron taylor (Springfield, Mo. United States) never got a chance to use it received a defective one. had to return it. Sanyo customer service was not very helpful.
Disappointed & not as good as the aluratek februarie 18, 2010 rosedelblanco (USA) 1 din 1 gasit aceasta revizuire de ajutor
I have owned the aluratek AIRMM01F for over a year. I have never had a problem with getting a station etc. I finally received the Sanyo r227 last week ( after a 7 week wait for delivery ) & intended to use it downstairs with a set of computer speakers attached.
Thus far I have been very disappointed with it. My frustration stems from the fact that I have to unplug it every time I want to get it to play. I read another reviewer comments who had the same problem.
When it works it is okay but as it stands I wld not recommend your buying this. I am going to send it back & I will update this when I get the problem sorted out.
The Aluratek continues to work well. In fact, I conducted a 'head to head' test & placed them side by side to see how long it took them to connect to the same station. The Sanyo would only do it AFTER I had unplugged it. This was the case on several attempts. Very poor.
